サラ・ヴォーン～カーメン・マクレーとくれば次はエラ・フィッツジェラルドになるのは自然の流れですね。
エラは1917年生まれ、チック・ウェッブに見出されてプロ歌手活動に入りました。
ジャズ史上に輝く女性ジャズ・ヴォーカリストは誰か？
ビリー・ホリデイ、エラ・フィッツジェラルド、カーメン・マクレー、サラ・ヴォーンの４人を上げたいです。
それぞれに特徴があって魅力的だけど歌の上手さや可愛らしさはエラが頭一つ抜けていると思います。
この４大女性ジャズ・ヴォーカリストの１９５０年代が素晴らしいです。
まだみんな若いのでストレートにスタンダードを歌っています。
私はほとんどインスト専門だったのでヴォーカルには疎く、今になって気付くのも遅いけど仕方ないですね。
「若い頃はこんな風に歌っていたんだ」なんて、お蔭でとても新鮮に聴いています。
今作は全３９曲のCD２枚組、エラのベスト盤で好きな曲や良い曲がいっぱい収録されています。
お馴染みのルイ・アームストロングとの共演も３曲含まれていました。

聴いていると「やっぱりコール・ポーターはいいなぁ～」という結論に達してしまいます。
それこそ色んな歌手が歌っているけれど、そのどれもがいいんですよ。
結論は当たり前だけど「曲がいいから」のひと言です。
今作はエラ・フィッツジェラルドが歌う「コール・ポーター作品集」の代表作です。
今さらながら素晴らしいスタンダード・ナンバーのオンパレードになっています。
私的ベスト５は何か？
「Just One Of Those Things」、「Every Time We Say Goodbye」、「You Do SomethingTo Me」、「What Is This Thing Called Love」、「I Concentrate On You」としておこう。
まったくコール・ポーターの才能には驚くばかりです。
